Motivational Interviewing 
Intermediate Level Course

This interactive eLearning course is designed for facilitators of behaviour change who are working with clients. The course is suitable for those who have completed our Introductory Level MI course, or who have developed a solid understanding of MI through other previous experience and training, and who are interested in further developing their MI knowledge and skills. 

It includes videos and simulation based scenarios to embed the skills development components of the course. The course uses a learning path approach and will prove very useful for:

  • To teach you how to manage client ambivalence
  • To explore a range of skills, exercises and techniques useful for informing and advising in MI
  • To develop techniques for avoiding the 'Roadblocks' to change
  • To enable you to acquire the skills necessary to avoid the 'Righting Reflex
  • To teach you the Four Core Strategies of Motivational Interviewing

Expected Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this eLearning course, participants will demonstrate:

  • An awareness of the core concepts of Motivational Interviewing
  • A range of skills for promoting discrepancy and managing client ambivalence
  • An ability to effectively advise and give information in an MI adherent manner
  • A sound knowledge of the strategies needed to avoid the Roadblocks to positive client change
  • A range of skills for ensuring we can avoid the 'Righting Reflex‘
  • A confidence in using Open Ended Questions
  • An ability to use Affirmations to develop client confidence and self-efficacy
  • An awareness of the importance of using Reflective Listening skills as part of MI
  • The use of Summary as an integral part of the MI approach

Certification:

Each person who successfully completes this Motivational Interviewing Intermediate Level Course will receive a certificate signed by the appropriate professional course tutor. This certificate can then be used to show evidence of course completion and for Continuing Professional Development requirements.
